Myra Thomas

Age: 13

    Myra is our struggling heroine. She has it bad. Her father is fighting in Iraq, her mother is in prison for burning down their house, her brother is away most of the time in college, and she's all alone. So you can imagine her being vulnerable and small. But that all fades away when she meets Sarah, Nicole, and Penny.

Sarah Harris

Age: 13

    Sarah is Myra's friend. She is a rich girl but a little too depend on her father. She may but a snob on the outside but she is a good girl at heart. But then, her father cuts her off. Sarah must now grow up and support herself.

Nicole Combs

Age: 13

    Nicole is Sarah and Myra's friend. She is practically the one who has it all together. The girl lives with her parents and grandmother in a nice middle class lifestyle. She is tested almost everyday to see if she will last. Nicole will help Myra and Sarah survive.

Peter Thomas

Age: 21

    Peter is Myra's older brother. He is away most of the time in college. The guy doesn't even stay at his own flat and hangs out  at his friends' places. He only his Myra living in his flat to keep it.

Penny Hamilton

Age: 10

    Penny is Myra's friend. She has it worse than her "big sister". She lives with her grandmother who is mentally and verbally abusive, her mom is a heroin addict, and her step-father raped and killed her older sister. Penny serves as Myra's inspiration to improve her life and get stronger. She always carries around a beautiful deck of cards.

Pauline Thomas

Age: 42

    Pauline is Myra and Peter's mother. She once had a good life until her husband joined the army. He was away most of the time. All Pauline wanted was for him to be there for his kids. One day while visiting, her husband got called away again. He and Pauline fought about it loud and last. In the end, he just stormed. Angry, Pauline threw a pair of his sneakers in the bathtub and lit them. But the fire got out of control and destroyed the house. She was lucky enough to get Myra and herself out. Now, Pauline is serving time for arse and damage to property.

Oliver Thomas

Age: 44

    Oliver is Myra and Peter's father. He is a captain in the army. The man is mostly away in Iraq fighting. Oliver really cares about his family and loves his daughter to pieces.

Mrs. Chapman

Age: 32

    Mrs. Chapman is Myra, Sarah, and Nicole's teacher. She helps the girls survive. Mrs. Chapman tries to show Myra that the military isn't bad all of the time.

Poland

Age: 55

    Poland is one of Myra's old neighbors in the college neighborhood she temporarily lives in. She befriends the girls and helps them survive. Poland is a loud, dirty, and strong-willed old woman.
